Teresa Mae Lafferty grew up in Southern California’s Inland Empire, about 60 miles south of LA in a city called Corona. From a young age, Teresa always had a curiosity of telling story with movement and imagination. She started dancing at the age of 5, and danced competitively throughout her adolescence. Teresa always erred towards the risky and more conceptual storytelling than her peers she danced with. In high school, Teresa found theatre, being a medium that was able to bleed her love for music, physical storytelling, and transcendence into another world.
Teresa moved to New York City at 18 years old for some fresh scenery that matched her ambitions. She holds degrees and certificates from The New School of Drama (BFA), The National Theatre Institute (Cert), and The American Academy of Dramatic Arts (AOS). She has special loves for Devised work and Physical Theatre, participating in the development of new and emerging work, as well as a good well-written play or musical. Teresa investigates the humanity and inner strength of each character she plays, and tries to find the soul and fire that lives within them. Teresa has performed and worked in several off-and off-off broadway venues in NYC, including: Playwrights Horizons, Theatre Row, The New Ohio, Theatre for the New City, SoHo Playhouse, The Secret Theatre, and The Brick.
Teresa is also a Choreographer and has worked on several projects assisting movement and physical storytelling to aid the piece to its greatest potential. She enjoys leading groups of people towards making images and moving through concepts that communicate to something deeper within ourselves.
Teresa hopes to be able to travel with her work and learn more about the huge world and how she can be deeper in connection to it.
